Dredge pumps are a special category of heavy-duty slurry pumps that are utilized in the process of dredging. Dredging is referred to as the process of transport of underwater sediments (usually sand, gravel or rocks) from one region to another.
A dredge pump is a horizontal centrifugal pump and is the heartbeat of a dredge. It is designed to handle abrasive granular materials and solids of limited size in suspension. Without the dredge pump, a cutter suction dredge would not be able to transport slurry.
1.How does a dredge pump work?
The dredge pump contains a pump casing and an impeller. The impeller is located inside the pump casing and is attached to the drive motor via gearbox and shaft. The frontal portion of the pump casing is sealed with a suction cover, connecting directly to the dredge’s suction pipe. The dredge pump’s discharge is positioned near the top of the dredge pump and is connected to a separate discharge line.
Milestone is specialized in pumps which are mainly required for special soils as well as big pumps for highest extraction quantities. The pumps can also be delivered with an integrated gearbox or electric drive as bearing. Naturally the mechanical safety of our product is the top priority. We only use the most wear-resistant materials to ensure no breakage during operations. We also offer a complete range of dredge pump options. All pumps are subjected to thorough function tests prior to delivery to guarantee the required pump performances. We will be glad to give you a solid advice which pump is best suited for your situation.
2.Main parts of Fancy Dredge Pump for Cutter Suction Dredger
1 )Shaft---To meet rugged operating conditions, an oversized, high-strength alloy steel shaft is furnished.
2) Stuffing box and shaft sleeve---An extra deep stuffing box equipped with a lantern ring gives sealing of the shaft opening. Replaceable shaft sleeve allows for quick maintenance of the sealing surface.
3) Bearings---Anti-friction roller bearings are housed in separate radial and thrust assemblies for maximum rigidity and alignment. The bearing frames offer single piece housing and increased shaft size.
4) Wear adjustment---Adjusting screw allows axial adjustment of impeller, shaft and bearing assembly to compensate for wear, maintaining maximum pump efficiency.
